MISSION SPOTLIGHT: IDES -- Helping Feed the World!

International  Disaster  Emergency  Services IDES strives to meet the physical and spiritual needs of people across the world in the name of Jesus Christ.  This organization serves the hungry, the suffering, the sick, the hurting by providing aid for physical needs with the love of Christ.  Meeting physical needs first leads to opportunities to provide spiritual fulfillment.  (Click here to learn more about IDES.)   Columbia Christian Church supports this wonderful obligation with prayer, finances, and service when the opportunity arises.  We have been blessed to help pack food for IDES in the past and will be doing so again on Saturday, June 22, at 10:00 am, in our Activities Center.  If you'd like to help, sign up on the bulletin board at church.  If you are a member of the community who would like to help, call the church office and let them know! 2018 Food Packers Each bag contains 6 nutritious meals that only need water to prepare and each meal onl

Welcome, Bro. John Davis & Family! Columbia Christian Church has been searching for a new senior minister this year, after Bro. Terry White retired.  Bro. White and his family served our church faithfully for over 30 years.  Bro. Richard Martin is our interim minister and is doing a wonderful job!   After an extensive search by the appointed search team, John Davis came before the congregation to be considered for the senior minister position.  On Sunday, May 19, a special-called congregational meeting was held at the end of the morning service to vote on hiring him.  John received an overwhelmingly positive response and has accepted the position at Columbia Christian.  His ministry will begin June 30, 2019. John and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Owen and Jordyn.  They were both raised in the Owensboro area of Kentucky, where they attended high school together.  John and Jen attended college at UK and were married right after they graduated in 2007.  J

MISSION SPOTLIGHT: Men for Christ

Image
At Columbia Christian Church, we take missions seriously!  We love and support those men and women serving Christ here at home and around the world.  In this post, we want to share more about Men for Christ . Men for Christ was founded in the early 1950's in Kentucky to "promote Christian fellowship, strengthen churches, and establish new churches after the pattern found in the New Testament."  It is a non-profit organization of men from congregations throughout Kentucky.  These men meet monthly for fellowship and planning purposes--and also to enjoy a great meal from the host church! The website (linked above) has more detailed information about this wonderful organization and all the work that has been done throughout their history, including numerous church plantings, assistance with expansion,  disaster funding, and so much more.  Columbia Christian is proud to be a founder and ongoing supporter of this organization.

“Spring has arrived! March Madness is now down to the final 16! We are only 4 weeks away from Easter weekend! This time of the year is always filled with excitement! And I have to say being in worship with this church family the past 8 weeks has been exciting! The worship team is doing a great job in leading us to lift our voices in praise to the Lord; the men sharing in the Communion Meditations are helping us focus on just why we take the Lord’s Supper each week; those serving as Greeters make you feel you’re glad to be here; and where would we be without all the volunteers serving in the Nursery-Kids’ Zone ministries! Let me also add that the church staff is doing a super job during this transition. Adam is really giving 100% to his ministry & even going over & beyond the call! Carol & Jennie are doing a super job in the church office making sure during the week all programs & especially prayer updates are sent out. And it goes without saying that you as a ch

It's time for Upward Sports!

Every winter, Columbia Christian Church hosts Upward Basketball and Cheerleading for the boys and girls in the community.  Any one age 4 through 5th grade can play.  Games have already started this season and the kids are having a great time--the grown-ups are too, I believe!  Come out on a Saturday morning or a Thursday evening to catch a game.   Each game has devotions at half-time.  Concessions are served too.
